The signs and symptoms that develop in patients with ectopic ADH syndrome are due to the effect of water intoxication on the nervous system. If the serum sodium concentration does not fall below 120mmol/l, the patient may have no complaints. If the level falls lower than this value, a variety of signs and symptoms, as described in Fig. 21.11, usually appear.
